PROBLEM: Darkened Spiritual Perception

SOLUTION: New Heart/Renewed Mind/Mind of Christ

Your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power. We do...speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing....we have the mind of Christ.- 1 Cor. 2:4-6;16 We can think like Jesus thinks in every aspect of life, because we’ve been given the mind of Christ.

WILL

PROBLEM: Self-reliance, Selfishness, Willful Sin

Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion. - Hebrews 3:15 Traditional coaching emphasizes MASTERY, reliance on self, choosing & getting what YOU want, while not being led or surrendering.

SOLUTION: Entering into Freedom

If you diligently listen to and obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all of His commandments which I am commanding you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you pay attention to the voice of the Lord your God. - Deut. 28:1-2 We are given a clear choice as to whom we will serve, but we will serve someone. Submit to His will & be overtaken by the blessings of God.

EMOTIONS

PROBLEM: Pursuing Sensuality

Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed. - Ephesians 4:19 Traditional coaching emphasizes emotional intelligence, regulating emotions, & pursuing pleasure.

SOLUTIONS: LOVE & Binding

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. - Psalm 147:3 ... God, I seek you, my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water… Because your love (hesed) is better than life, my lips will praise you.” - Psalm 63:1,3 God’s love isn’t general, but is personal, & a personal encounter transforms the emotions.
